Re: Who is your favorite president?
Missouri's own, Harry Truman, although I have read that the book that introduced me to him, Plain Speaking, was largely fabricated by the author. Ironic that a testament to Truman's honesty would turn out to be fake.

I never know where to put him on these lists.pop_haines wrote:Just missed: JFK
Same with Carter. Carter has a bad reputation but I think he was a victim of circumstance. Not that I think he was a good president or anything. It's just that in different times, I think he could have been.

I'd think Lincoln and FDR definitely. I'll have to ponder this and get back to you.TimeForGuinness wrote:ok...back on topic...it actually was an interesting discussion.TabascoElvis wrote:Jefferson, w/o a doubt.

I grew up in Springifield, Illinois where we have the Lincoln Library, Lincoln Park, Lincoln Land College, Lincoln Pizza, Lincoln Gas Station, Lincoln train depot, Linco Hotel, Lincoln Street, Lincoln Car Wash, Lincoln Septic Systems, Lincoln House, Lincoln Law Offices, Lincoln Plaza, Lincoln Cemetary, and Lincoln Insurance to name a few.
Quite frankly, I'm sick of the man, otherwise I would vote for him.

I think Jimmy Carter is one of the truly great men to have been in the White House. I'm not sure he was a great president(though I think circumstances made it near impossible to succeed), but a wonderful man.pop_haines wrote:Funny, I disliked Carter and thought him ineffective back in the day.RC21* wrote:I never know where to put him on these lists.pop_haines wrote:Just missed: JFK

I like him a LOT more now.
Next Christmas, pick up a copy of "Christmas in Plains". A great read at the holidays.
