I'd rather drink a really good beer at a place with good atmosphere. That said, it sure is hard to enjoy a delicious beer if the scene totally turns you off.

I'm on record pimping Augusta Brewery - for atmosphere and location way more than it's beer (same as Square One's beer I believe) or food, tied with some casual Katy Trail biking to work up a thirst/ then kill off the buzz.

Recently -some of it's atmosphere dropped slightly for me, but not much (I don't like on busy days where you have to wait in a food line to get beer).

The missus didn't take kindly to the four foot garter snake that slithered past our table last time.

Checked out 2nd Shift Brewery - west of Washington MO and little trainstop town called New Haven.

If you like off the beaten path and drinking decent beer. Then this is for you.

The brewery is on grounds of an old country estate/retreat center/B&B ish place called Cedar Creek. One of the past owners put up a Western town, so the brewery and tasting room is set up in there. Really kind of a scooby doo ghost town aspect to it. Gas house gang pitcher Burleigh (Old Stubblebeard) Grimes was a past owner - so maybe his ghost is roaming around there. limited hours. We planned to stay the night in a room at the retreat center and they gave us a little house on the grounds which was cool.

Looks like they are just getting started with this place. Just a couple people working. The small group of people that made it out there were having fun.
Beer was good. Unfortunatly no El Gato Grande on tap. They had a few food options going that were good. Again, seems like it's a startup as brewpub. Hope it works out.
