Northern Illinois camping: Rock Cut or Starved Rock?

Looks like it’s gonna be really cold.

Rock Cut was nice IIRC, but nothing spectacular.
I haven't been to Starved Rock, but hear it has unique features. I've steered clear - it sounds busy because of Chicagoans. So if it's going to be cold, good chance to see Starved Rock. It probably has a lodge to go warm up in

Starved Rock is pretty heavily visited. I'd go another hour and half up to the driftless.

I'm not a camper, but most people I know around here who are into that kind of stuff always rave about Starved Rock. I don't really hear anyone talk about Rock Cut. When I think of Rock Cut I think of field trips in grade school.

Been to driftless region of Iowa. Beautiful.

Jo Daviess County? Apple River Canyon?

I still haven't gotten up there, I've just been researching for a fly fishing trip and it seems like Iowa is much more lax than Wisconsin for winter access.

You can catch and release trout in Minnesota all winter, and they have fishing easements over a lot of the trout streams in the Driftless in SE MN.
