So for people who have hiked at altitude, have you found any tricks for dealing with altitude sickness?

I have a binocular shaped flask for "sight seeing" each monocular is a separate container allowing me to carry 2 different drinks in it at once.docellis wrote:I just bring as much alcohol as I can carry.

Peru. This time next week I'll be in Cuzco, over 11,000 ft., getting acclimated before hiking the Inca Trail.Arthur Dent wrote:Where are you going?G. Keenan wrote:So for people who have hiked at altitude, have you found any tricks for dealing with altitude sickness?

Ive never hiked at altitude but ive skied quite a bit and ran into people with altitude sickness when i worked at Vail. My biggest advice is to stay WELL hydrated in the days leading upto the trip. Force yourself to drink lots of water for a few days before you go and that should help out alot.G. Cool, thanks for the tip. I've read that it's a good idea to lay off alcohol as well. We'll see how that goes...Diddy wrote:Ive never hiked at altitude but ive skied quite a bit and ran into people with altitude sickness when i worked at Vail. I hear ya sister!docellis wrote:I just bring as much alcohol as I can carry.
One time I was doing that half-sleep/awake dream state that you do on the first night of camping. I kept hearing someone rummaging in our cooler - and so I started dreaming that the rednecks down the way were taking my silver bullets- you know, the rednecks that that pulled in at 9:30 blaring Skynyrd and commenced chainsawing firewood...well after awhile of fitful dreams I wake up and realize someone really is in my cooler - and they're stealin my beer! So I unzip the tent and its the effin coons chowin down on eggs. Thank gawd it warn't the beer.
just to be safe, the next night I put the picnic table on top the cooler.
