Call me crazy, but after listening to the debate on health care, I could see Paul Clement getting tapped at a brokered convention. From a Republican perspective, if Obamacare is overturned, I couldn't think of a Republican better poised to beat Obama. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would make it through a two year drawn out election with a primary, but if you put him on a podium against Obama, he would be able to put Obama in turtle-mode and pummel away.

Republicans win when election turnout is low. The best way to do that is to destroy Obama's star power. If you put the guy most well-versed with his policies with the ability to cast extreme doubt, then a Republican will win 2012.

And Sarah Palin wouldn't be tapped because she motivates the left to get out and vote to prevent a loon from being in the White House.

He'd be light on cash (since he hasn't been fundraising). Few people know of him or his policies. His attacks on DOMA and ACA would probably motivate the left to go out and vote. And most importantly, he has absolutely 0 legislative experience. As much as the Republicans tried to rip on Obama for experience a man who as spent exactly 0 days as a law maker is pretty risky endeavor.

Even in a brokered convention, it's highly unlikely the GOP end up with anything but Romney or Santorum.

I pay attention to politics and have no idea who Paul Clement is.

I think he's that chin goatee guy we have rehabbing in Memphis. You know, used to pitch for the Cubs and then Red Sox.

If only Sarah Palin had run ...

Quote:
It didn't have to be this way. If Sarah Palin had entered the contest, I'd hypothesize two alternative realities. One, she'd have the nomination sewn up by now. Two, she'd be running even in the polls with the president.

Or Carl Pavano. Although I hear he has a whole other mess on his hands.
