Pretty straight forward question, do you do your own yard work? I do mine, but it's getting less and less convenient to do so. My neighbor suggested hiring it done. What does something like that typically cost for a big yard?

I am also considering having a 60x25 area of my side yard landscaped. It was something we had planned to do for a while but not until after we'd finished all the renovations on the interior and got our new porch and roof on. With all of that finished and with me lacking the vision Nic had I'm wondering about having that hired out too. I'd like a nice secluded seating area in the shade to sitting work on my website outside.

I have a guy mow my lawn. He's retired, father of one of my good friends. Can't beat the price for not having to buy a big ZTR for myself and waste 3 hours every weekend mowing. I have enough other projects at home that take up my time.

I do it and like it. It doesn't take much time though. It's a sense of accomplishment, small as it may be.

I do it myself. It's not a big yard, so it usually doesn't take more than an hour or 1.5 hours. I could hire one of the roaming crews of Mexicanos for about $20 a pop, but I don't need to pay someone to do this for me.

There's something simple and zenlike about mowing my lawn. It's one of the few tasks in my life that have a concrete beginning, middle and end, resulting in a sense of accomplishment. Most of my cases span years and years; some of them go up on appeal more than once before even going to trial, and you hardly ever have a decisionpoint where you can say "Boom. This case is over and done with. I'm glad we finished this and can close out the file." There's almost always an appeal, a remand, a motion for rehearing, or the months and months (or years!) waiting for an order from a court after a case has been briefed.

But when I mow the lawn, that [expletive] is DONE. When I started, [expletive] was all scraggly and unkempt, and now it is neat and ordered. It's quite unlike my day to day life, and it's a short time without a screaming toddler or the infinite void of the appellate process in which to create that order. During that time I can either think, or even better, not think at all.

I used to have a place with 4 acres, about an acre we cut in three different areas. It took about 1-1.5 hours with the lawn tractor and there were times where I did enjoy that. It looked so nice when we were done. What I didn't like was that it was very bumpy, and it would jolt the crap out of you in spots and shake your beer up real good (tractor had a cupholder). Not sure what happens when you shake beer like that but the last ounce or so is pure water.

I do my own, and enjoy it. I don't perfect the lawn. Just cut it, weed whack occasionally. It's 1 hour a week tops.

I get caught up on the podcasts I enjoy. Then I drag it out just to hang outside -and then lay in the hammock drinking beer and reading.

What's a yard?

I think the city takes care of the parks for me.

I like mowing quite a bit. My yard takes 1.5 hours and a gallon of gas but I still turned down someone's offer to do it for $30. But any kind of landscaping or tree trimming is definitely getting hired out.

I have a fairly small yard. Takes 25 minutes to mow it myself, so I really struggle to justify spending money to have someone else mow it.

Now if I could find someone to scoop dog crap for $20 a week i'd be all over it.
