A lot of people are capable of driving and breaking the rules of the road all the time safely. You have to understand some people don't need to follow the exact same laws and drive in the exact same manner to drive as safe as the other. Just because you're terrified crap-less because you have bikers appear out of no-where doesn't mean everyone has the same poor spacial recognition, and you shouldn't get angry at these drivers because they don't need to stop at a red for three seconds. Nor should you feel like these people should be punished just for driving to a different standard that's totally possibly as equally safe as yours.

So since some people can do it, everyone should be allowed to do it?
How are we supposed to know who is capable of stopping for a millisecond and who needs to stop for longer?

No, you just don't stick damn cameras on street corners to snipe people. The fact once again that must be presented in this thread, is that they don't actually make places safer. They just piss people off and eventually would cause every municipality to have them, and eventually they would be on almost every frequented corner. It's just a joke. Tax everyone in your own community instead of others. Or eventually you'll just make life miserable for all taxpayers.

Snipers on every corner might do the trick though....

Oh, and I didn't hit the dude on the bike, I saw him out of the corner of my eye and was able to easily avoid him, but not every driver can do that, is it not safer to require drivers to stop for 3 seconds to avoid this problem, or is your wasted 3 seconds more important than a pedestrian or other drivers life?
I was arguing the validity of the law, not the camera, and I am gainst vandalizing the cameras, even though I don't really care for the cameras.

So you don't really like watching the Cardinals on TV?

If they shot the cards games on traffic cameras I would love traffic cameras.

Speaking of legislating for everyone. I wish we could have an advanced drivers license program in this country so that excellent drivers, with better driving abilities could pay more so we could drive faster. Say 85 on the interstates, 70 on two lane roads. Of course in town speeds would be the same as every one else. This will sound really cocky but I have real race driving experience and two race licenses yet I'm confined to the same speeds that the awful drivers out there. I've never had a ticket, that's right never. Well we will see about this red light ticket and I feel like I should be rewarded.

To get this advanced license I propose pretty strict requirements.

No tickets for 5 years, if you get a ticket you lose your advanced license and fines are double. Particularly for speeding and reckless driving.
Must complete an advanced driving school like Skippy or Bondorant which would demonstrate the ability to control your car at higher speeds.
License fees would be significantly higher then an average license.
Driver must be 21 years old
Driver must license individual cars as well as the driver for the advanced license program. Each car must past a rigorous inspection yearly to ensure car is safe to drive at higher speeds.

I realize I'm getting a bit off topic here but the point that not all drivers are equal is very true and I think those of us with better ability should be allowed to use it.

Speed limits of 70 on major two lane rural roads are already pretty common, and in west Texas and parts of Utah the interstate speed limit is already 80. There's also barely any speed enforcement on these roads. A two-tier speed limit system would introduce more speed differential between vehicles, which I would guess would be less safe than just raising the limit for everyone. The main issue, I think, is gas usage rather than safety. 65 mph is already more than fast enough to kill you, but fuel usage shoots up extremely quickly at high speed. And it's non-linear. The extra gas needed to average 70 instead of 65 is less than the amount needed to go from 70 to 75 and so on. By the time you get to 85, mpg really craters.

I'd rather get a special license that allows me to pull over and murder people who are driving 35 in a 45 MPH zone or who sit at a green light for more than the acceptable quarter of a second and then try to get to speed without ever revving their engine over 2000 RPM.

I think doing that would slow you down considerably.

I think people in Illinois seem to think that there isn't a fast lane. All lanes can go at whatever speed they feel like.
