Cutting the Cable/Satellite Cord

Anyone here doing it?

All my contracts expire within 2 weeks and I'm strongly considering just ditching TV service completely. If I could have a service that just had Discovery, History, Travel and Nat Geo that would cover 90% of what I watch now.

Haven't had cable in over 2 years and don't really miss it. Just get Netflix.

I'm about 6 months into it. I miss being able to tune in for specific news items from time to time, and I have to download some shows that I want to watch - anything on AMC for example. Otherwise, Hulu and Netflix are good enough. I have a jailbroken AppleTV to watch the downloaded shows, using Plex Media Server. Add in MLB on the Xbox as of this week, and I'm pretty well covered.

Random sporting events are kind of a pain - the Superbowl was one. Missed a lot of IU basketball since I couldn't get Big10 network. Not sure what I'm going to do if the Cards make it far into the postseason. I don't think there was an online option for the World Series last year.

For the past couple years I've gotten cable October-March for baseball playoffs, college/pro football, and college/pro basketball. I cancel it April-September and get mlb.tv and netflix to catch up on movies and shows. I don't think I could ever completely cut the cord, mainly because of college and pro football.

On the complete other end of the spectrum, I'm actually thinking of keeping all the movie channels when my free subscription to them ends. I've watched like one movie (a few times) on Cinemax and I haven't watched any Starz, TMC, or Showtime that I can think of, but I think that's probably because I'd already seen all the movies that have premiered on them recently.
