I cut a corner too tight on my garage (doh!) and lightly scraped the side of my car.
The car is a silver mazda. The scrapes are not deep enough where I would need paint. But it does look crappy

Any good products/techniques to use on this?

It sounds like a scratch on the clear coat or very top layer of paint. Try some rubbing compound for starters.

Step 1: torch car
Step 2: file insurance claim
Step 3: get new car that doesn't have scrapes

Run over a bicyclist and blame it on him.

You'll probably need to polish them out. It likely won't happen by hand. You can try wet sanding the area with some 800 grit paper dipped in water. Hit it a few times from several directions. Then step up to a 1200 or 1400 grit and do the same thing. Then get some polish, I prefer Adam's but you'll never find it in a store so it's going to have to be something like Mequires or Mothers. Finally after you've polished it to a shine get some wax over the top of it. However I'm guessing you will need to machine polish to get them completely out.

Can I do this if I don't have $200 jeans?

thanks for the suggestions.

FYI- the scratches don't look as bad as this guys truck

Any downside to trying the easy solution of a rubbing compound first before I go to the sandpaper?

You have to find a person on a bike or walking in $200 jeans and hit them. That way they are fine other than a small rip in their pants. Blaming it on the pedestrian or cyclist goes over a lot better with people when the person getting hit isn't dead. When they are dead then everyone just feels sorry for them and assumes that you are lying.

But it would be best to try the rubbing compound first, right?

I had decent luck with something called Quixx recently that I bought at Walmart for $20.
