Just found a survey from the local High School that they sent out through the chamber...they are considering doing random drug testing on athletes and those with parking permits. Is this a common thing, or something that is becoming popular?

Not sure what punishments/protocol/parents permission is...not factoring in those things you think it is a good idea?

edit: Found the policy...it would be a "forced permission" basically you want to park your car or play sports you have to be put in the random pool...otherwise you can't drive or play.

punishment...1st offense no driving or playing for 20 days; 2nd offense within 24 months of 1st suspension is a 365 day suspension; 3rd offense never allowed to play or drive while in high school

Also includes any activities, not just sports or parking permit

When I was in HS we were told we were subject to random screenings (for the athletes), tho I don't know anybody who was ever tested. I have a friend who teaches in Missouri and she said athletes get called out of her classes all the time for random testing.

I think it's a good idea. The pressure of knowing a test is imminent will help prevent student athletes from considering steroids. I knew a kid in HS who became HIV+ from a bad needle he got when taking steroids.
