For me it is fleeting also, and also a similar number of times to you. It is almost always when I'm talking with someone and usually when I am faced with some kind of decision (or will be, soon). I feel like I've made the same (or very similar decision) already in the past, or I've had this conversation before, etc. And the general sense I have is that I feel like maybe I didn't make the right choice in the past, and some part of me is hoping that I make the right decision this time. It's useless though because I can never quite place what the past decision exactly was that I am thinking of, and what was good or bad about it.Joe Shlabotnik wrote:I've experienced it maybe a dozen times over the years. Its always fleeting - just a few seconds. But I am aware I've seen the situation before and know what will be said or who will do something next and then its gone. Weird.
I always have the sense I've dreamed it but haven't ever known when. No 'I dreamed this last night!' or anything like that.
I've assumed it was chance. But since we know time is relative who knows?
Kind of related thought - I recall reading that in a lot of cases people who make quick decisions without thinking too much very often make better decisions (ones they are happier with later) than ones who analyze and weigh pros and cons too much. The idea is that our subconsious can analyze things very quickly. If we take too much time and overthink it, our conscious mind might put too much emphasis on a certain things (loss aversion and stuff like that). Also, people who invested a lot more time in making the decision expect a bigger payoff which often doesn't materialize, so they end up disappointed. I think it was in Gladwell's book "Blink". It made a lot of sense to me.
