Your Favorite Specs on the Map

Post by Hungary Jack »

Marathon, TX.

It's about as close to nowhere you can get while still being somewhere.

Population 470. Gateway to Big Bend NP. Home of the Gage Hotel. Marfa about 60 miles west.

Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona is a small town in the White Mountains, about 4 hours from Phoenix. Way less populous than the Flagstaff area for weekend camping and fishing. Really pleasant weather and the wettest part of the state.

Springdale UT, nice small town within walking distance, or trolley ride to Zion National Park, and well situated for day trips to GC, Bryce, Grand Escalante etc etc etc. Polygamy, no chain restaurants, mule deer roaming thru town.

Hard to beat the Tetons.

Grebe Lake, Yellowstone. You can catch greyling there. Lots of fun.

Not a fan of the pseudo-gentrification going on here since I've been gone, but this place holds a special place in my heart. Grafton, IL
