The wildest interview I've ever read: https://www.gq.com/story/quincy-jones-has-a-story
Quincy wasn't done: http://www.vulture.com/2018/02/quincy-j ... ation.html

Quincy Jones is either amusing himself by telling the biggest lies with all of his credibility behind it or he's telling the truth. Truth like he bought drugs from Malcolm X, Truman Capote was the wild racist, Marlon Brando had sex with Richard Pryor, he saw Ray Charles shoot heroin into his testicles, and much more. He [expletive] Ivanka Trump. Do yourself a favor.
I've been interested in this but also insanely busy. I found it dramatized which was helpful:

I like thread bumps that show me things like this that I missed the first time around.

Cracked used to be so fun. But it's run its course. Instead of fun photoshop contests they have graphics contests of people writing "one time my buddy in college got so drunk..." over stock images. The listicles suck now too. They should just run the old stuff; creepiest places on earth and history's greatest hucksters and such.

But anyway, that really is a separate rant.

There's a great piece there now from David Wong that's ostensibly about Star Wars, and really about modern times, gratification, the hamster wheels we're made to run in, entitlement, our inability to turn our eyes on ourselves and other issues. Arguable in parts, very thought-provoking: good longform opinion writing.

http://www.cracked.com/blog/why-youre-b ... tent-rage/

It's obvious to us when we see it in other people -- when incels think women owe them sex, when Christians think the world owes them hegemony, when comedians think they're owed rape jokes, when the rich think they deserve to make ten thousand times more than their rank-and-file employees. But our own misguided entitlement is so well-hidden from ourselves that when somebody comes along and points it out, it feels like the most brutal of injustices: Victim blaming. "Yes, I just used my iPhone to post about overthrowing capitalism. How can you call me a hypocrite when the 1 percent control half of the wealth?!?"

Now watch the retweets roll in, reaffirming that you're right, that none of this is your fault, all while someone else collects the ad revenue. Neatly concealing the fact that if we wanted to, we could shut this whole thing down. If we were willing.

I don't know if this should be in political or long reads, but it hits close to home. This is an hour from where I grew up. Played basketball and baseball in DeQueen.

Never thought I would log on to the Ringer and see a story about DeQueen, ICE and cockfighting

In the Pit With the Fighting Roosters
A massive raid on a long-running cockfighting ring in Arkansas has raised complex questions about ICE, immigration, and the future of a centuries-old tradition
