I have a couple of Phillips "smart" bulbs and they will randomly turn themselves on sometimes. Like last night at 3:00am, for example. Rather disturbing.

Good lord, did whoever come up with that factory reset process just decide to see how many times they could get people to repeat the same thing before finally saying [expletive] it, smash the bulb and just put a normal one in? I thought the video was caught in a loop there for a bit.

This is awesome. Man have I been there! Here's how this happens:

Tester: "Hey Joe, we started testing the smart bulbs and need a way for the automated tester to reset the wireless connection."
Joey Baloney, Firmware Developer: "Sure! Let's see you want a long sequence to differentiate from your test sequences right?"
Tester: "Yeah - that would be great!"

[1 day later]

Joe: "Here's the new firmware version with the connection reset. I'll send you the code snippet for that automatic button pusher in just a sec."

[Six months later]

Sales guy: "Yo!! We just sold our technology to GE! They're already making them at their contract manufacturer in China!"
Joe: "Wait WHAT?!? What about the reset sequences? They're still set for our test environment!"
SG: "Wut?"

There Is Nothing More Permanent Than A Temporary Kludge.

This is probably better fit for a weird but true thread but I have lived in my apartment for over 8 years now and had never been to a single Whittaker Music Festival at Botanical Gardens until last night. I live less than 100 yards from the gardens and can literally hear the music from my apartment. I should have started going to those a long time ago.
