ESPN Black Wednesday: Jayson Stark, Trent Dilfer OUT

Post by Farewell Friends »

Crowes mentioned it in the baseball forum, but Deadspin is keeping a running tally of all the layoffs ESPN is making. Some big names are popping up on this list.

I know no time is a good time to announce layoffs, but it seems strange to fire Ed Werder on the eve of the biggest NFL event that ESPN airs every year.

Hollywood Reporter says Karl Ravech, Ryen Russillo and Hannah Storm will all have significantly reduced roles, whatever that means.

I didn't realize Werder got the axe.

Is this the prelude to a crash for team revenues as giant TV contracts dry up?

MLB and NFL have been hit hard, and what NHL coverage ESPN had has almost shriveled up entirely.

I feel like I hear LeBrun's name a lot wrt NHL. That's probably a bad sign for whatever coverage they have left.

He basically was their NHL insider. And Joey McDonald, who also got cut today, was probably their best online NHL writer. I think their NHL ties now are Melrose, Buccigross and Levy.

Bad news for BBTN:

So far, Kannell only one openly expressing bitterness.
