This seems like something we should have had for a long time and probably terrible for the environment.

Apparently one of the original issues was that the refrigerant they used to cool the can was not good for the environment and they couldn't have people just releasing it all willy nilly so their beer would chill in seconds. I think the original cans used R-134 refrigerant (or whatever we use in cars currently) which I thought was relatively safe for the environment but I guess I only have that impression based on the fact that in order to get the R-22 that was used prior, you have to have a license or something while you can walk into any auto parts store and pick up as much of the R-134 as you want. The amounts involved in millions (or more) of cans a year are probably much more dangerous to the environment than a few thousand leaky car a/c systems where people just charge constantly instead of fixing the problem.

I think I'd rather be proactive and buy beer in advance, or grab something out of the cooler at the store so it's already cold, or take a cooler on the boat when I'm fishing, or literally do anything other than spend $6 for 8oz of anything potable that's not wine or distilled.
