Since about 45 in my case. The prime directive has been met 4 times over, they are out of the house and on their own, the world certainly doesn't give a [expletive] about my political opinions. Time to die.Jocephus wrote:i've been running out the clock since i was 15.

That might have sounded more dramatic than meant. I'll enjoy the grandkids (first in September!) and all that but as far as having ANY ambition, that fire is gone.pop_haines wrote:Joe, I am old ( I watched Kenny Boyer play ball) and you are young, C'mon man.Joe Shlabotnik wrote:Since about 45 in my case. I'm just an old bum.
You are far more than that.

Re: Anthony Bourdain dead from apparent suicide
Somehow this suicide thread got darker.
It's never too late guys. Trite and cliche, sure, but holds. I quit a corporate job in my 30s and did improv for 6 years. Then I quit doing improv and started a restaurant in my late 30s. I'm in my 40s and planning my next career in which I hope to incorporate parts of my experience doing something different. At my 42nd bday party there were a bunch of restaurant and bar kids there in their 20s who insisted "speech! speech! speech!" and I told them simply: "Always take the risk in life. It's worth it. Don't worry, your intelligence, hard work, character and values will be the safety net that catches you when there's a snag, and it will bounce you right back up."
Go get 'em.

Isn't that kinda the philosophy that Bourdain adopted, though.

Re: Anthony Bourdain dead from apparent suicide
Is this an attempt to tie risk-taking with suicide?

No.
It feels like you're side-stepping suicide depression by recommending risk-taking. I'm not sure that's great advice.
