Instead of the Random Musings, here is a thread to discuss airport stories and the good the bad and the ugly.

KCI- what the hell, it isn't even KC. Have considered driving there to catch a plane west, but not worth that extra trip off 70. Only been in it once.

STL-the Southwest terminal is great. Three Kings and Schlaflys have an airport spot there. Good to go. The other terminal, not so much.

Portland - I like. Great set up. Local musicians play there randomly. Met some old guy folking it up acoustically with Townes and Guy Clark covers. He played Fort Worth Blues for me as I drank coffee.

but really, I am the worst person to start this thread. I currently fly maybe once or twice a year for vacation, so all airports are associated with fun and happiness.

I've never flown or even been in an airport.

Even better than PreCheck is Global Entry. $15 more but it includes PreCheck and expedites your return to the US whenever you are coming back to the states via either airline, highway, or cruise ship - you'll never spend more than 2 minutes waiting at Customs for re-entry.

And best yet is to add CLEAR if your departing airport supports it. You are personally escorted to the front of the PreCheck line (or the regular line if PreCheck isn't operating at that time).

Wow. How about your parents?
I know my Mom was well over 50 for her 1st flight. For me , I flew in a small 6 seater for work trip when I was 22. Took off in Q town, weird -I don't remember the small airport where we landed-Harrisburg IL perhaps. Could have drove but client probably was covering travel.

Meh, I just haven't traveled over seas and I enjoy driving. I really am it's the journey not the destination type of guy. My favorite times are in the car listening to some music and seeing the sites along the way.

My Dad has been in a helicopter before but not a plane to my knowledge. My Mom has never flown.

I didn't realize my random musing inspired an airport discussion. I fly frequently. For the most part my needs are simple. But I had a four and a half hour layover at KCI and that was suckage. The rest rooms are small with one stall and one urinal in the two I tried, the first one had a line of people so I went in and went out to find one at a gate that hadn't just deplaned and there was only one person waiting there. So that was lame. Then there was a Mexican restaurant, a barbecue restaurant and a pizza hut. I settled on the barbecue. The overpriced food was decent but not great. And the walkways are narrow and also when a plane is boarding you have to maneuver around their lines or weave through the waiting area. And there were about three outlets for charging in the whole terminal.

STL airport doesn't bother me too much but if I am flying into St Louis I then leave immediately or I'm going out. Layovers are what always exposes the weakness in an airport.

John Glenn in Columbus Ohio is a convenient enough airport and they've been putting some money into it lately so it's getting better with every visit.

PDX in Portland OR is pretty good.

SeaTac is good but busy. Paine Field north of Seattle is taking more passenger flights now so that might help.

Atlanta is hell on Earth

Midway is decent in Chicago. Even O'Hare seems to be better than it used to.

Oakland was pretty blah but no major complaint.

Las Vegas is cool

Reagan Washington is all right but I prefer BWI just for personal travel preferences.

Nashville airport seemed okay but I had short layovers there, which always makes visits more pleasant.

LAX can burn in hell.
