lasik FTW

wife and i both had it 5 or so years ago and love it

plus almost all places have 0% interest for 2-3 years, so can get it done for about 100 bucks a month

I think that is on my list for next year. I've got plenty of money in my HSA now but still would like to keep that growing in case something happens. By next year I'll have enough that I can pay for Lasik out of my HSA to benefit from those pre-tax contributions and still have enough to cover my yearly out of pocket expenses if something catastrophic should happen. I thought about doing it late last year or early this year but decided to wait until 2020.

I ended up going with a pair of Oakley's that I tried on and seriously considered when I bought my current glasses last October. At the time I liked the ones I currently wear better for day to day but considered the Oakley's because they felt very secure on my face and tough enough that they could stand up to a little more abuse than others. Plus they also have interchangeable nose pads to adjust the fit and the socks (seriously, that is what they call them) at the ends are apparently made of some material that gets stickier when it gets wet which helps them stay secure when sweating and that is probably a really good thing.

I also got the transition lenses even though I have never liked them when I've noticed them on other people. Does anybody here have any experience with them?

Mainly I've noticed them on people with wire frames that you would never picture as sunglasses so when they darken outside it just doesn't look right to me. They look like an ugly pair of sunglasses as opposed to looking like a fine pair of eye glasses normally. But I can't wear sunglasses over regular glasses as easily as just going with the transition lenses so I did. I don't care how weird they look, at least I'll be able to see out there!

I just recently got glasses (bifocals) a few weeks ago.

First time in my life I've ever worn glasses.

I got a cool pair of Helium Paris frames with every option on them besides transition. I don't want to be the creep in a lighted conference room with tinted lenses.

I also got a badass pair of Nike frames with prescription sunglass, bifocal lenses. I love wearing these. I wonder if they could just do regular lenses in these instead of sunglass...

I'm still getting used to wearing glasses.

I hadn't even thought about the creep in the conference room with the tinted lenses but that does kind of some up how I feel about somebody when I notice that they definitely have them. Thankfully these aren't for anything other than sports and backup glasses so I can live with myself. I think.

As for the Nike frames, I just went the SportRx website, picked a pair of Nike sunglasses that I was pretty sure would be the least likely to offer clear lenses due to the shape of the lens and then found a lens configuration thing and you can go with clear lenses with a bifocal prescription. Not only that but the pair of sunglasses I looked at actually has interchangeable lenses so on some frames from Nike you could have clear and sunglass lenses. So yeah. You should probably be able to get a pair of clear lenses for whatever ones you have.

That is cool! Thanks for the info!

Once you get used to the glasses you will start doing really stupid stuff like fall asleep watching a movie or something and then wake up and start searching for your glasses for awhile before you realize that you can see and have had them on the entire time. After awhile you get so used to them that you really don't even realize you have them on unless you actually think about them.

I wasn't even old when I did that the first time, I was a sophomore in high school (which is also when I first got glasses).

UPS delivered the new glasses yesterday and while I wasn't sure about Lenscrafters' online ordering process at first, they did deliver the glasses with the correct prescription.

My worry was that when I placed the order, I was missing the PD number from my written prescription so I used the option to have them contact my eye doctor to get the prescription. The next day I got an email saying that my order was for non-prescription glasses. After talking with somebody in Customer Service, I was assured that it would take time until they could call my doctor to get the info but the prescription would be added and the order filled correctly. And it was. They probably need to adjust their communication process a bit so that people don't panic though.

Anyway, the Oakley's fit really snug so I feel really confident with them for softball. I brought them to work with me (didn't wear them) so I can't wait to take a trip outside around lunch time and see how the transition lenses work and if they will be a good compromise between sunglasses with contacts and just regular glasses.

I had also knew that the nose pieces are interchangeable with different sizes, the Oakley logos on the side could be swapped out and so can the pieces that go over the ears. What I didn't realize is that they would ship with three different size nose pieces and four different colored Oakley logos. I need to check the box again when I get home, maybe there are different colored ear things in there that I didn't notice too. Unless I have different colored ear deals, I'm not going to change the color of the logo. It would be nice to swap out the maroon logos and ear sticks with the blue that matches the color of our shirts for my Thursday softball team perfectly.
