Porn

Post by Smith Corks One »

I didn't want to derail the elevator thread any further, but I thought there was some interesting discussion going on in there. I feel like there's this weird dichotomy with porn, where I've seen so many feminists (female and male) defending/supporting it because it's "empowering" etc. etc. but at the same time, I can't really think of anything that's more demeaning, at least as it currently exists in our culture.

I guess if fully consenting adults want to get together and make some erotica, fine, who am I to protest. But I feel like the vast majority of what's going on today is more like what Popeye described: young, desperate girls with no future who are completely misled about what they're going to be doing, probably filled with drugs and alcohol at the point when key decisions have to be made, and once they start, told they won't get any money if they don't do far more than what they expected to do. Sure they're naive, but they're also 3 years away from being legally allowed to drink alcohol because their brains aren't fully developed or whatever.

Not to mention that everything is so extreme these days. Gagging throat [expletive], vicious anal, atm, slapping...even the titles of so many videos/scenes/whatever refer to punishing, brutalizing, etc. And that's just the "mainstream" stuff these days, as far as porn goes. I'd hate to think what's out there on the "dark web," or whatever it's called. How is this empowering again? I feel like our repressive Puritanical history has led to an explosion of depravity on the other side.

Speaking of the split personality of our culture, I never felt that it was perfectly on display more than when I would drive through middle Missouri on 44 and see alternating signs for porn shops and signs that said JESUS.

What's always puzzled me is that if a person has sex for money, that's prostitution - illegal, punishable with prison terms. But if a person has sex for money and a camera is filming it, that's just porn, and a legit multi-billion-dollar industry.

You pretty much said all that needed to be said. From a feminist standpoint the problem isn't the sex work, it's the exploitation (capitalism). I usually stick to cam sites, and my girl sticks with kink.com for the gagging/punishing [expletive] because she likes BDSM and she knows that kink.com is a quality organization that treats their women well.

I watch porno in the day I watch porno at night
I'm a terminal case and I love my plight
Some say I'm sick I say I'm alright
All I do is fess up while they keep it out of sight
It's my own religion my own kind of heaven
Big ole schlongs goin' into little women
All for me to see on the color screen
Bonerville, Arizona, you know what I mean
CHORUS
I need porno
I need porno
Magazines yeah you know I've got 'em
Full'a young naked women with young naked bottoms
My name is House the albino mouse
I always read Penthouse never read Proust
I got every single issue of Bondage Quarterly
All but one of Gay Night Orderlies
I read the best I read the rest and now I confess
I got a life subscription to Enema Digest
CHORUS
I'm not afraid to admit to my addiction
I like to watch two people use friction
Big black Mama Jama or Ginger Lynn
I like to watch it go in and out again
On the video fast or slow-mo
I can unwind to a good porno show
My girlfriend she gets so uptight
When I call her and I tell her it's porno night
CHORUS

This never made any sense to me, either. I guess if you film it, it can be defended as "art"? No idea.

Maybe it is kosher because both parties are being paid?

Supposedly the official stance is that the two people are having sex of their own volition, and the director is merely paying for the right to film it.

I want to chime in here and I don't want to chime in here. Before I met my gf I guess I assumed all porn chicks were just broken degenerates with no options and no future and that's that. Now I realize it's so much more complex. Yeah most of the girls come from a screwed up past, abuse of varying forms and so on. I think even more so the common theme I see (because I know like four porn stars now) is that no one told them they were worth anything.

I will just speak about my gf and experience with her. She was always just pretty. That's what everyone told her she was good for, to look at, and eventually to use for pleasure. That let her to being a stripper. Turns out she was good at it and guys did think she was pretty so she made a lot of money. Then a stripper friend starts doing porn and says you should do porn. I think one of the saddest things I've ever had someone say to me was when she said "well I didn't have any options and basically my family just said I was destine to be a whore and while I wasn't a prostitute this seemed like fullfilling the prophecy while not going to the level of prostitution." So she did porn. Apparently she was good at it because again she made good money. She told me the first turning point was that after living the "lifestyle" for about a year and a half she still didn't have much money. She was thinking why am I doing this to myself and at the end I will basically have nothing. I guess she was at a good point in her career where she was able to pick and choose what she did to an extent so thankfully she didn't get to that point of having to be gagged or anally raped or whatever. She spent the next few years doing porn, building a social media presence, and cam work. She was saving her money and being smart. She still drank and partied some but no drugs at this point. However she was getting older and she knew the end was getting near when she was being asked to do more and more extreme stuff. Which she turned down.

Turning point two. She ran into a good friend of mine while she was home visiting her one sister she actually likes. My friends name is Amy. Amy is super positive, encouraging, and the type of person that lifts people up. She did that with Michelle and Michelle credits her as the first person to say you know you can do anything, you are awesome and capable. So Michelle perused health and fitness education. She was still doing some other work though. In fact and I didn't even know this until maybe a year ago. The day after Michelle and I had our first date and really hit it off she deleted all of her social media and quit the industry for good. Her last bit was just doing cam work.

That brings us to now. People have this perception that porn stars are just sex addicts looking for sex all the time. I think that's where the creepers come in. Michelle is just a normal girl. She is no more sexual than any other girl I've been with. She just happened to do porn and I think she did porn because no one told her she could do something else. No one told her that yeah you are pretty but you are also smart, and sweet, and funny, and you can do anything. She gets that now and she has been a real positive influence on other friends of hers in the industry too.

Don't get caught up in this well they signed up for it stuff. I don't think you can imagine what it's like to have some weird creeper come up to you at dinner and basically think you owe them your time and maybe more.

Sorry that got long. This is a fascinating subject and I guess I have a bit of a unique perspective now that I know really changed my opinion.
