Key West recommendations

Just booked plane tickets to key west via ft lauderdale.

Any good recommendations on places to stay? The caveat is that it needs to include free parking, as we are renting a car and don't wanna pay extra valet fees--though it may or may not be inevitable.

I say inevitable because the places i've looked at with free parking look kinda gritty.

Beachfront is preferred, but not necessarily a deal breaker.

I've stayed here twice and had great experiences both times. Two bars and two restaurants on-site. Both are very good. It's right on the water next to a bunch of boat charters. Bit of a schlep to Duval street, but conveniently far from it if you want to relax without the tourist stuff.

that's the one we were actually looking at.

I'm learning that and am quite surprised to find that there isn't alot of beach front in the keys....at least a lot of places on the beach, which is kind of unfortunate, but i guess since the island is so mall, it's not that big of a deal.

I want to go there now just because of the captions on the photos they have.

"Young woman sitting in hotel lobby on couch reading book."

"Light fixtures hanging from ceiling."

"Fish meal on a grey plate."

"Brown dog looking up laying in grass."

Yeah the keys aren't a beach going destination at all. It's all about the boating/jet skis. It rules down there, tho.

I'd recommend bath salts with a human face garnish.

I'd recommend on your way down eating a giant fish sandwich at La Camaronera in Miami, picking up cigars at La Fe in Marathon and then once you get there avoiding Duval St at all costs.
