Two of the people on board apparently were not who they said they were, but were traveling with stolen passports. Smells like a bombing.

One of the Americans works at my company. The corporate directory shows 2 guys with that name. One is on assignment in Malaysia, the other in China, so not sure which one.

Turns out it was the same guy. He was moving from Beijing to Kuala Lumpur (you get new email addresses based on which country you're working in).

Question....

How has the wreckage not been found yet and how hard would it be for a plane to 'disappear' for a couple days. In other words, is there a transmitter or something you can turn off to not show the plane's gps/whereabouts? And if you destroyed all cell phones, would there be anything else other than a flight log to account for a plane's whereabouts?

The ocean is a big [expletive] area to search, even if you know the general area you're searching.

Iirc, the air France crash in 2009 took like a week to find any wreckage in the ocean.

It just seems odd to me to say the plane is missing, not the plane crashed, were looking for survivors. I not a conspiracy theory guy but its a strange way to word it, at least to me.

No conspiracy theory but more of some good ole fashion corporate spin. If the plane has crashed that's bad for the airline and Boeing. If it's just "missing" then the door can be open for a terrorist plot or something along those lines.

if they can't find it, and no group is taking credit for destroying it, missing seems apt until they find something.

last ive heard is that some oil they found in the water was not used on the plane so thats thrown out. and that some debris was just that, sea trash, not related to the plane. very weird and certainly scary.
