What are your all time best seasons of a TV show? Say i have 10 seasons worth of TV to live (can be 6 eps; can be 22 eps) and i want to spend that time watching television. It’s your 10 headed Mt Rushmore of seasons, your 10 seasons to blast out into outer space, 10 for a time capsule. Or 5.

It would be hard to not hold what was, imo, a disappointing payoff against Lost, but those first couple seasons there was great story-telling and character building with fascinating intrigue and mystery. Really great television experience.

Simpsons season 3-6, maybe 7 would be hard to select from. Seinfeld creates similar problems.

SNL seems like an impossible can of worms entirely dependent on when you were 14.

I'd be really interested in hearing opinions on shows from before tv got really excellent roughly 15 years ago. I was talking to some girl at work who has never seen Full House. And I told her, no, it wasn't good, but it WAS on TV. Man how times have changed. Lucky lady

Some older shows to consider

Hill St Blues
Barney Miller
M*A*S*H
Twilight Zone
All in the Family

Not sure there’s anything pre 1970 worth considering other than TZ

There's a season of "Justified" that needs to be in this conversation. I'm just not sure which one it should be.

I'll also nominate the 1st season of "Mr. Robot".

I have fond memories of staying home sick and watching Perry Mason while my mom folded laundry. I wonder if it was actually good.

I see Justified (based on the 1st season) as a very 70s style show in the vein of McCloud, Columbo, Rockford Files. Entertaining but dated with some pretty caricatured roles.

Wooooooow great thread. This is going to take a lot of thinking, googling to remember what was in which season of Seinfeld and stuff, then probably a lot of re-shuffling.

The first season of Fargo is absolutely perfect and would be in my top 10 no matter.
Ditto Larry Sanders Season 4, and you can argue for both 3 and 5 and probably 2 you can name any season of this they’re all flawless but IMO 4 is the apex.
Deadwood 2
Curb 3 (I think, I gotta look at episode list)
Seinfeld from like 1992-1995
Simpsons 2
Season 3 of The Wire with 4 not far behind.
Arrested Development 2
Breaking Bad 5
The Office (UK) 1
Atlanta 2
Twin Peaks 1
Sopranos 2 and 3
Homicide 1

Am I at 10 yet?

Right. I loved me some Hogan’s Heroes and it has left me with some funny comps for people I’ve met, situations but not sure i could call it good.

Do sketch/variety shows count?
Portlandia Season 1
Key & Peele Season 2
Mr Show 1 and 2
SNL in the year Ferrell/Fey/Poehler/Gasteyer/Shannon were all hitting
SNL 1 when it was a great variety show
SNL that one year that Sandler/Farley/Rock/Schneider/Spade/Myers/Nealon kind of all peaked at once
LWT w/ John Oliver 2
In Living Color 1
The like 2nd-4th years of Letterman on NBC
