I need to revisit that show too, I didn't watch seasons 1-2 or most of 3, then like the 3rd to last ep I watched it while waiting for something else to come on HBO and I ended up watching the last three eps and really loving them.

Sort of gray area. I like the idea of a television series that was meant to last multiple seasons, to compare seasons, cast changes, writer changes, themes, etc.
Given that, mini series would be out. True Detective would be gray area.

My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance Season 1 (dunno if there was more than that)
Deadwood Seasons 1-2
Band of Brothers
Planet Earth (the one with Sigourney Weaver)

There's the definitive list of best television seasons ever. And, if by some chance you disagree, then get a brain moran.
BoB would count?

If it does, it probably wins. It might be the best TV ever made. That episode where they find the concentration camp still makes me cry and I've seen it like 5 times.
