That may be a good idea for those interested in learning.
Maybe define them, and put them into context.
I sense a hunger for knowledge. Not on my part though, I am enjoying the bliss.

This is something that we (mods) have talked about doing with the rollout of the new frontpage for some time now.
I am to blame with this because of my lack of time lately, and the redesign of the frontpage is being re-done, again. I didn't care for it as much as I wanted, so I am currently re-doing it.
Maybe we can get the baseball statistic wiki or webpage up and running in the meantime. I think it would be a great tool if people were able to browse, learn, download programs to calculate certain stats, and even contribute their own metrics. I think it could be a real asset to the site.
Really, it is about finding time...but I want to make this something that our users can contribute to and learn from.
Thanks for the input. Sorry I've been slacking.

I haven't been much help either, so don't take all the blame. I think it's a great idea.

google has always answered my questions. I've never needed anyone to google for me.

I've thought about links to those sites, maybe what is needed is a practioners guide. For example, RC posted that A. Jones LD% was 20% but his BABIP was .236. (I made those numbers up)
You can look up LD% and BABIP, but if you don't know that BABIP tends to average out at about .310 you wouldn't necessarily know that what he is saying is that he's hitting the ball and getting lucky.

This would be awesome.TimeForGuinness wrote:Maybe we can get the baseball statistic wiki or webpage up and running in the meantime. Something that I've thought about a couple of times was to have all of the Cardinals stats on the site here. E.g., you can't get FIP from Bref, and you can't get WARP from THT. Like most of the sabermetric stats on one page for the team. You could have the stats on the page heading hyperlinked to their wiki which includes a glossary definition and a basic explanation of what they are good for/not good for.
I'm not sure how easy that would be to do, if it would take manual upkeep, or if a bunch of it could be lifted parsed/lifted/calculated automatically, but I think it would be pretty sweet.
A full site wiki could be pretty fun in general BTW.

I know this thread is over 3 years old and instead of making a new one, I'll just bump it. Is there anything here that could describe stats, what they mean and etc?
