Sudden Thread Locks

Before a thread is locked, the person taking the least popular point of view, which probably led to the argument necessitating the lock, should be warned by PM and given an opportunity to have the last word.

Don't you think "needing to have the last word" is what causes most thread locking?

Since my original motivation was weariness of hearing about the case, I didn't want to complain. I'd love to squeeze in some last words, but then they'd be deleted and this thread would be locked.
