My 9 year old nephew needs to have another open heart surgery - he had 4 of them before he was 2 years old due to a birth defect both he and his twin brother have, basically his arteries between the heart and lungs were all mixed up.
Those of you who are prayer folks, prayers are appreciated, those of you who are not - your positive thoughts for him and his family are appreciated as well. Not sure when the surgery will happen, but he and his brother will need another one in a few years as well to replace valves that they will be outgrowing so the lung doctor and the heart doctor are trying to decide when the best time to do the surgery will be - the lung Doc says as soon as possible, while the heart Doc wants to push it until they need to replace the valves.

The kid has had a tough life, but is amazingly strong and resilient.

Hopefully this is part of the course of his lifelong treatment and not a turn for the worse. Best wishes

That's a lot for a youngster to go through. It sounds like he's a tough cookie though since he's been through so much already. I'll be hoping for the best.

This issue, unfortunately, is a new one. The Lung Doc is afraid if they don't do the surgery soon to fix this artery going to his lung, he could actually lose the lung. He and his brother have been through so much, both of them spent basically the first 2 years of their lives in the hospital with tubes sticking out of them. They had breathing tubes, so the muscles in their throats could not develop naturally. The Doc said they would never be able to talk and possibly could not even be able to eat and would need to be on feeding tubes their entire lives due to their inability to swallow. Through intense therapy and hard work, both of them are able to talk, and eat. They are really amazing bright boys. They moved back to the Chicago area last fall, and when we were visiting last week in Chicago, we went to the lake, and to see all the scars on their little bodies reminds us how tough they have had it. But they keep working and keep getting through the next challenge put in front of them. Really amazing kids.

Your thoughts and prayers do really mean something.

Thanks!

Gives us updates when you can. I hate the thought of kids having to go through stuff like this.
