Its called " I can't believe it's not Buddah!"

This is going to be a drawn-out primary season, if only because the bulk of the delegates won't be chosen for a while.

To tell you the truth, I have no idea how all this will end up. I think Santorum comes across as far more sincere and likeable than either Romney or Gingrich: no one questions S's religious convictions, he has a working-class background, and being from rural Pennsylvania, I think he has the ability to appeal to both Southern and Midwestern voters.

Nevertheless, I don't see him as a strong national candidate. I don't think he'd be able to pivot to the center effectively after the primaries. I don't think he would appeal to women because of his stances on contraception and health care. I think sabre-rattling on defense policy has less and less appeal in the wake of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (and given a Democratic candidate who is far weaker on the economy than on defense issues). And frankly, he is a big-government conservative in the George Bush mold rather than a true Tea Party conservative. The more he is compared to Bush, the more he will be savaged.

To say Santorum isn't a strong national candidate is all kinds of understatement. The guy got trounced in his home state the last time he tried to hold his senate seat. His views on social issues are insanely regressive.

Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned an "uber-liberal Obama." Does this guy have a first name? Cause he sounds like someone I could get behind.

From what I've read, an awful lot of the Tea Party supports big-government conservatism even though they don't call it that.

If Santorum is nominated, there will be a few days where I can hold out hope that a fetus will be his vice-presidential running mate.

Sadly, I the demographic his gay hating, fundamentalism appeals to is this group. They'll vote for him to keep those gays from marrying and prevent that evil socialism while using EBT and disability.

I think TFG posted the Carlin quote about the 'average' american? The bit talks about average Americans being on Jerry Springer because below average can't get on the show. He's more correct than most people understand. The uneducated, hungry and out-of-work average American are more like the people you see on Springer than you see around here.

I kind of want him to be the nominee, just to see how it plays on a state by state level. I can't see any way he doesn't lose in a landslide. Obama has months worth of material for negative ads.
