Really people? Ever hear of recycling? Ever hear of Computers for Schools? Ever hear of lead and mercury?

Get a [expletive] clue.

I just threw away a mouse. Was that bad?

PS. We don't have recycling in my town.

I had a summer job in college in the IT department of a hospital. Basically, it was delivering new ink cartridges to departments, but I figured it would look good on med school applications. The hospital had dozens to 100 or so old computers stored away. They had been using them for spare parts every once in a while, but they had finally upgraded all the computers in the hospital so they were now just eating up attic storage space. They looked into donating them to schools and such, but eventually they were told by corporate that none of the equipment was worth the cost in man-hours and shipping to find anyone who could use them and get the equipment to them.

So I got the two hardest days of work of my life, carrying all of this equipment out of a huge attic with walls about 4.5' high in temperatures of 120 plus, but it was almost worth the effort later because we got to shot put all these heavy old CRT monitors into a huge compactor and then hear them crushed into tiny bits.

You should've put Skynet stickers all over the monitors and filmed the destruction, so when technological singularity inevitably arrives, we could look back with false hope to the days when we were still in control.

Funny, I just took a few old computers I had in the basement to a computer recycling place on Friday.

I haven't had to mess with this in a while, but are places still charging you to recycle your old electronics?
