Cards fans gotta get over Pujols.
I'm not sure if this should be in baseball or rant. So we made it to the game last night with a group of friends. What I've noticed is that the serious baseball people, which I'd consider myself one, are pretty much over Pujols. We've moved on, we have a great team on the field and we are looking forward to this season.
However the more casual fans of our group just can't seem to get over it. I heard comments like "I'll bet Pujols saw the opening day ceremonies and wished he was back here." Well no I doubt that.
Then there was Beltran's home run where one said "who needs Pujols!"
I could go on but I won't. So basically the night was filled with Pujols comments, but here's the thing. He's gone, he's not coming back, he doesn't miss us and if he wanted to be here he would be. I'm slightly embarrassed that he we are five months later in at the beginning of what could be a great season and still all I'm hearing is Pujols talk. The thing is it's not intelligent talk but more of sore loser speak on Cards fans part. This wasn't just my group though I heard it alot last night from a lot of people.
Also I want to take this time to apologize for misrepresenting Cards fans last night when after a full game plus extra innings of quietly listening to this jack ass Reds fan behind me screaming in my ear how the Cards suck and Reds are so great I might have turned around after we won and yelled "in your [expletive] face [expletive] wad! Get the [expletive] out of our house!" I also did this right in front of three nuns, I did get high fives from everyone around me though.

You have to balance the joy of winning against the pain of losing versus the pain of winning against the joy of losing, and correct for the joy and pain of not participating.

These are the kind of people that brought a fishing rod with a dollar bill on a hook and various other signs and things the first time A-Rod came back to Seattle. Remember what a scene that was? I hope these Cards fans don't make that kind of scene when he finally comes back as a visitor sometime down the road.IMADreamer wrote:I'm not sure if this should be in baseball or rant. The only good thing is that it will be a while since Albert went to the A.L. west. A-Rod had to appear in Seattle the very next April (right around this time of year in 2001). Imagine the scene if Albert was coming back to Busch for a series this week as a Marlin or something...

The lesson you should take away from this is that the casual Cardinal fan is stupid. Unbelievably stupid. I was at a game a few years ago, and the people in front of me were discussing how the Cardinals hadn't had a good pitching staff since the late 90's. This was particularly dumbfounding since they led the league in ERA in 2005, and were 2nd in 2004. Meanwhile in the late 90's, they were...not very good.
They were also wondering why Eckstein wasn't playing that night. This was 2 years after he had left. No, they were not attempting to be sarcastic.
I would say this is nearing the bottom of the barrel when it comes to stupid casual fans. But even the average is pretty dumb. So I am not surprised that many of them have abandonment issues with Pujols.

Casual fans aren't stupid. By the way, any word on when Mike Lincoln or Al Reyes will be in the bullpin this year?

These kind of fans are also part of another large group of people known as ESPN viewers.
