The MD, etc is a joke based upon Planet's (I think her's) posting many moons ago was a joke about how people had predicated their employment based upon peoples' overt display of certifications on linkedin. At no point was it ever to display arrogance or anything upon other people' qualifications, nor to claim any of the qualifcations listed.

Sorry for the confusion on the credentials/designations.

Pretty good advice given in here. There's no reason you can't turn this experience into a positive, and most often your previous employer won't say anything about the reason you were let go. I'd explain your functions and descriptors and spin the experience into a way in. From there, if you find a strong company, you'll find a manager who realizes that when you hire and develop stars, they make you look better and are the best thing for your career.

Good luck to you, and PM me if there's anything I can do to help.

just reiterating, no need to put the job on your resume.

I had a job for 6 months that I never put on mine.

Damn. Really sorry, AK. Generally you hear of young guys displacing older, more expensive guys, but I guess with as [expletive] as the job market is right now, companies are taking experienced guys who are willing to work for less salary than they would have requested before.

I know the economy is a [expletive] to everybody, but between how tough it is for recent grads to get a job and the new health care policy, I do think 20-somethings are getting [expletive] the hardest. Hang in there, dude. Don't burn any bridges, maybe try telling them you were grateful for the experience. Kill them with kindness and maybe they can at least offer a good recommendation when you job hunt.

Last week our company purged about 80 in the US and I don't know how many in other countries. All management and larger salaries in advance of our Q2 conference call earlier today. I've never been so glad that I didn't make more money because nobody who got the ax saw it coming. Although as a part of that it was made public today what our Chief Science Officer left with and he is going to be just fine. In the end he'll get about $1.1M in cash, 12 months of full medical and he will still get his full bonus at the end of the year based on the company's performance to go along with all of his stock options. Not a bad way to go. Oh yeah... 6 month consulting contract with the company for $140K but I think that may be included in the $1.1M in cash.

Now people who weren't let go are starting to flee which is not good. Our old CEO died of a sudden myocardial infarction on his way to a movie with his wife and the guy who took over is formerly of the auto industry. And brought in more guys from the auto industry. We are a science company... but he is running things as he would at Chrysler and it isn't good. People don't have confidence in him and the layoffs were the last straw. I have heard of 5 people in the past week who have already found somewhere else and put in their two weeks. Many more are looking. Stinks because I have been here for over 15 years now but it might be time for me to start looking too. I wasn't even looking for a job the day I got my first job here. I was 19 and didn't even have a resume. A family friend who had connections here called me up about an entry level position and already had an interview set up even though I hadn't even filled out an application yet and I was offered the job before I even got home from the interviews. I don't know the first thing about finding a real job!!!

Can't encourage unethical resume building.

I don't think it is unethical to "not" list a job that was held less than a year.

No harm in that...different interpretations I suppose.

What is he going to say in the interview why he left job before that and had an employment gap?

He just graduated and it is a tough job market.

He did just graduate. He took a job that had an antiquated system of accounting and he attempted to modernize it. He found resistance.

It lasted 6 months.

I personally, would just omit it.
