I was hoping to get to Grace + Three for lunch today but instead a coworker mentioned Brasilia on Grand so we went there. I do not regret going with him. They have a buffet at lunch and everything was good, especially their version of beef stroganoff. Other than the fact was beef in a sauce, it wasn't much like any I've had before, it was much better.

I knew that Louie on DeMun was going to be solid, but the food was really fantastic. Had white bean hummus, broccolini pizza, butternut squash agnolotti and fried cauliflower. It was like an intimate Pastaria with better staff and much better food.

Can't remember if you're old enough to have been to King Louie's during it's heyday. It was awesome.

I think it opened when I was in HS and then I was in CoMo and Chicago for the glory days, so I definitely missed it. I've only met him in passing, but McGuire is legendary among STL restaurant folks. My old roommate worked with him at Monarch back in the day and has kept in touch since and pretty much thinks he walks on water.

In my early days working for my company there was a thing where every year your boss would take you out for an anniversary lunch and King Louie's was one of the places in the rotation since it was so close to our offices. I have missed that place for a long time.
The other one that was popular was Soulard's which burned awhile back but looks like it is being rebuilt from what I saw going past the building a few weeks ago.

Going Out for Lunch Is a Dying Tradition
The article bases it mostly on chains.
Americans made 433 million fewer trips to restaurants at lunchtime last year, resulting in roughly $3.2 billion in lost business, according to market-research firm NPD Group Inc. It was the lowest level of lunch traffic in at least four decades.
I don't as much as I used to simply because it involves of 20 min of driving to and fro from work.“I put [restaurant] lunch right up there with fax machines and pay phones,” said Jim Parks, a 55-year-old sales director who used to dine out for lunch nearly every day but found in recent years that he no longer had room for it in his schedule.

Re: rant: fine dining
I rarely go out for lunch because of the time issue combined with the fact that going out for lunch is more expensive than just grabbing something in our cafeteria even if I am tired of them having the same stuff every single day. I really need to start bringing my own lunch more often.
As for the time, it seems that I used to be able to go out and sit down somewhere for lunch and be back in the office in right about an hour. That never happens anymore should I actually go out. I don't know why but it seems that lunch takes longer than it used to and I certainly haven't slowed down on my eating so that's not the problem.
I've also started taking advantage of delivery services at work a little more recently. Through different services I can have Adam's Smokehouse, Bogart's, Crown Candy and places like that delivered in addition to the normal Chinese, pizza and sandwiches. Any time I can find somebody to pile on my order, I order out and have it delivered. I have stuff for lunch today and tomorrow but I'm thinking I might treat myself to another BLT and banana malt from Crown Candy on Friday whether anybody else wants to order or not.
