2 Laclede Gas utility workers were just shot to death in a random shooting this morning. Sometimes I find this city hard to take.

Someone was musing about Matt Carpenter's beard at lunch today. I told them he converted to Islam. They were horrified. I never told them any different. Sorry Matt, your fan club probably lost one today.

The most popular QB for the Bears the last 10 years has been the backup.
Even better, the mispronounced version of the backup. Kyle Orkman. Josh McNown.
Dat Jay Cutman sucks!

My firm represents a lot of cities, some big, some tiny. Last night I was acting city attorney for one of our small ones, which means I drive out to their city hall and sit in on their city council meeting to answer any legal questions that come up.

The meetings always start with a prayer/invocation. I knew it was a bad omen when the local minister in attendance was wearing a Cubs shirt.

And sure enough, God was displeased. 10 minutes into the meeting, we had to adjourn because a bat had entered the chambers and was flying around buzzing everyone's heads. I come to learn this is not a rare occurrence. So much so that the city keeps a net there specifically to catch bats. The assistant city manager, a sweet lady of about 60 years of age, ran around swooping the net trying to catch the bat, which she successfully did within just a few minutes. The bat was taken outside and freed.

Lessons: 1. Always go to small town city council meetings. 2. Never allow a prayer to be given by a person in a Cubs shirt.

Good thing they didn't sacrifice bunt, either, which would have been throwing that bat away.
