Rave: Mulaney
John Mulaney is, I believe, currently the world's best comic.
Four virtually perfect stand up specials/albums:
The Top Part
New In Town
The Comeback Kid
Kid Gorgeous (just released on Netflix yesterday)
I can watch/listen to any of these any time and no matter how many times I've heard the jokes I still laugh out loud.
Two collaborative works with Nick Kroll that are hilarious:
Oh Hello (both the Broadway/touring live show and the Netflix special that was a recording from Broadway)
Big Mouth (utterly hilarious)
And the man created Stefon with Hader while writing at SNL.
His only real miss was that terrible FOX sitcom.

Re: Rave: Mulaney
I'm late to the party I guess. I'll have to checkout his stuff.
I remember I started "The Comeback Kid" but I stopped it after 10 min. I have to be in the right mood to watch stand-up.

Start with New in Town, the Comeback Kid was one of his weaker specials i thought. Cant wait to put on the new one

Re: Rave: Mulaney
I'd start at the beginning with The Top Part and work your way chronologically through them. He evolves from a smart-ass young guy in his 20s to a married guy in his 30s dealing with realtors and stuff. One of the central characters, with a wonderful arc throughout his routines, is his very average dad who is a stickler for order and rules who you see him morphing into over time, which he acknowledges in his act.

I have never watched or listened to any of his stuff entirely because of that sitcom. I didn't even last ten minutes of one episode before I wrote it, and him off. I'll have to give him another shot based on your post though.33anda3rd wrote:His only real miss was that terrible FOX sitcom.

His monologue on SNL last month was pretty much flawless.

I am That Guy who tends to work quotes of Mulaneys stand up into casual conversation... but its honestly like a reflex. Its usually nonsense and i usually dont explain the reference. But if anyone laughs I know why!

Mulaney is great and I normally don't think much of stand up
