I know. I'm super careful about it. For dogs their size, dog parks are way worse. The worst dogs go to those.

Also the worst dog guardians, like the dog walkers who pick up 7-10 dogs in a van, then come to the park and let them run for 40 minutes. At the park in our hood there are two of these guys, every day around 11:30, so it's basically two dudes sitting on a bench talking about the Cubs while 15-20 dogs run and [expletive] all over the park, about 3/4 of which [expletive] get bagged and removed. We had to stop going there.

Fully support this rant, those off-leash dogs are generally well-behaved and friendly but there's a reason other peoples' dogs are leashed. My dog loves 100% of humans, and loves 100% of dogs unless they're new to her and they get too close to her ears and then she wants to murder them. I don't get it, but she has an ear thing. It's best if she's not approached on the street by a foreign off-leash dog. My next-door neighbor's dog is always off leash and always wants to come investigate our dog. That neighbor also rides his bike on the sidewalk like he's 7 and wants to talk to me for way too long about The David Chang Podcast every time I see him, so I have other reasons for avoiding him but the dog thing is the biggest one.

Disagree about the dog park i go to. It’s freaking awesome. Oscar gets to run around 4 acres sniffing stuff and playing with other dogs.

Ha, serves this arrogant off-leash tool right:

Man Who Pulled Gun On Dog For Being Off Leash In Lincoln Square Park Was ‘Off Duty Law Enforcement’

Quote:
The dog’s owner posted about the incident on Facebook, but later deleted it after drawing hundreds of comments from concerned residents.

In a new May 9 post about the incident, he said neighbors seemed more concerned about his off-leash dog than the gunman.

“This definitely did happen and I’m the owner of one of the two dogs. I deleted my original post looking for info about the guy because instead of being helpful I was berated by individuals telling me to leash my dog (20lb dachshund) and I didn’t feel the need to defend myself or my dog any more that day,” the person said. “A police report has been filed.”

Did you know that Dachsunds are one of the most aggressive breeds, btw? Double irony you jackass.

Still though, if you're a CPD officer and you need to draw to confront a 20lb dog you're some kinda [expletive].

edit: wait, what? [expletive].

edit edit: what about Freed's "MAGA pussies."

edit edit edit: makes no sense.

Maybe, but that's how crazy off-leash dogs make people because to let your dog off leash in public (not in a dog park obv) is an act of gratuitous thoughtlessness. Look at how that guy was shocked when he went on Facebook searching for the perpetrator and instead caught hell from his neighbors telling him what a tool he is for letting his dogs off leash. He's genuinely shocked by it because it probably never even entered his mind that anyone could be annoyed by his "20 lb dachshund" running all over the damn park.

Oh, I agree. I'm a dog owner. I actively hate my around-the-corner neighbor whose dog is always off leash. You get no argument from me there.

But a policeman drawing a gun on a 20lb dog does not make me feel good for the state of the CPD.

True. He should have given the guy a ticket. The fine is like $500 or something. That would be great.

We need some kind of pseudo-police force for this, like a meter maid patrol or something that roams the neighborhoods handing out tickets to people who let their dogs off leash and don't pick up after them (another pet peeve). Then do something useful with the revenue like give it to Animal Care and Control or youth programs or something productive.

You see signs everywhere warning about it but nobody heeds them because nobody ever gets a ticket.
