Miller continues his ascension after a standout season in Low-A Quad Cities last season. Cox will be starting his first full pro season after being drafted in the first round last June and being added to the 40-man roster in August.

No. 3 prospect Carlos Martinez, the hard-throwing teen from the Dominican Republic, has been moved to the Quad Cities No. 2 roster.

The move hints at where Martinez will start his pro career.

Martinez, 19, has spent most of spring with the Quad Cities No. 1 club, and it's that roster that is most likely going north to Davenport, Iowa to start the season. The Cardinals are not in a position to confirm the assignment, but it's expected that Martinez will continue pitching in extended spring training rather than join the full-season rotation in Quad Cities.

The young righty is in his first few months in the United States, and the belief is that Martinez would benefit as much culturally as baseball-wise from remaining in Jupiter with the other extended-spring players. Pitching coach Dennis Martinez will be with the High-A Palm Beach club and he'll attend Martinez's starts for the extended spring games. The longer stay in Jupiter is expected to give Martinez needed time to acclimate to pro ball. Oh, and he'll continue to pitch in the warm weather.

One team official said on talent and arm strength alone, Martinez is ready for the competition in Quad Cities. It's still likely he'll pitch at that level sometime this summer.

The Quad Cities' rotation won't lack for prospects even with Martinez expected to stay back. The Cardinals' lowest-level full-season club will feature a few of the team's recent draft picks and at least one of the club's finer arms. Assigned to the Quad Cities No. 1 roster as RHP Seth Blair, RHP Jordan Swagerty and RHP Trevor Rosenthal. Swagerty, a closer in college, will begin his full-season pro career as a starter. This is not unusual. The Cardinals are among the teams that begin developing even their prospect relievers as starters to get them guaranteed innings and more opportuntiy to develop additional pitches or better pitch command.

I like all those assignments. Carlos Martinez continues to be a special case and one worth watching closely. Hopefully they can get him acclimated to the states and pitching in the Quad Cities soon.

It's going to be a great summer to for fans in Palm Beach and Springfield. I would guess that both Miller and Cox will get half seasons at both levels.

Who will be this year's Lance Lynn or Jess Todd? A first year player who progresses rapidly through multiple levels? I'm going to give the nod to Seth Blair. It might be a hitter this year, though. Nick Longmire perhaps?

Anyone have an idea where Jenkins will start the season?

I'm guessing that since Jenkins is still incredibly raw and signed at the deadline, he will likely start out in EST, and then shift to JC once their season starts. He only got a few innings in at JC last summer before their season ended, so I doubt the FO would consider starting him out at Batavia.

I figure it will likely be the same path that Daryl Jones took (although I'm hoping he won't struggle at the higher levels like DJ has).

I suppose it's possible he starts out at JC, then gets a mid-season promotion to Batavia if he's seriously kicking ass, but I really don't see it happening. Because he's so raw, I really don't see them rushing him through the system. It'd be different if he was somewhat refined as a pitcher, but like DJ, he was a multi-sport athlete, so he's not really been focusing on baseball full time.

Is there a place with the current minor league rosters? Their individual websites have last year's rosters, and the couple other places I've seen are still behind.

Thanks for the tip, drew a blank. Just curious b/c I'm planning to drive out to Kane Co when the River Bandits are there next week and was looking to see the rotation, but can't find even a roster anywhere. I'll just keep checking.

Your best bet might be to reach out to one or both of those teams directly, via email or especially twitter. Since many MiLB seasons don't start til mid-week it's going to be hard to come by info until close to your game day.

I love how they've stacked that Palm Beach rotation with good youngsters. It's a place where those guys can all have success and get some confidence. Blair and Swagerty will be knocking on the door as well.

This is going to be a great year to watch the lower minors. AAA is going to be pretty boring, actually. That AAA outfield is awful.

I've always found AAA, generally speaking, to be the least interesting of the minor leagues. The guys you can really project and dream on are in the lower levels, and when I'm going to a minor league game it's for those types of guys, not the taxi squad filler in AAA. Plus many of the best prospects play little to none at AAA. CC - 1 AAA start. King Felix - 14 AAA starts. Lincecum - 5 AAA starts. A-Rod, Pujols, HanRam, Teixeira, Holliday combined have under 425 career AAA PA (370 of those PA are A-Rod's), and HanRam and Tex never saw a AAA clubhouse. I don't mind hitting a couple AAA games/year, to see who's developed since last year or to catch someone like Carpetner who's on the rise, or Lynn if he's added a pitch and doing something different. But for the most part, I'll take QC, PB, and Springfield.
