...with Johnson city last night went well.

Quote:
Tyrell Jenkins, who will turn 19-years old in a month, made his much anticipated debut this year and pitched well. He went 5 innings, gave up 5 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk, and struck out 5. He also threw a wild pitch.

He's probably about 3 years away but all things considered that's a positive start for him.

Yea i'm really looking forward to following our bevy of pitching prospects--miller, martinez, rosenthal, and jenkins.

Don't forget Swagerty.

Swagerty has quite a bit of effort to his delivery, and relies on solid polish at this point. I think he's a reliever in the end, and always have.

Gast is a pretty decent pitching prospect as well. He could also end up in the bullpen due to velocity and a two pitch arsenal for the most part, but both are plus pitches, and he should be able to get out both lefties and righties.

I'd say he's more like 4 years away. He's extremely raw.

I was going to say 4 years, too. He'll probably spend most of the '11 at short-season ball, then a full stint at QC in '1. 1/2 seasons at PB and Springfield in '13, and then Memphis/Majors in '14. Even 4 years puts him in the majors at age 21 for a short stint and with the club at age 22.

His 2nd start wasn't as good as his first but not terrible:

I expect to see lots of lines like this as he continues to become polished.

I would like to get more information on what he's doing there, too. It's so hard to read into minor league results from pitchers. He could literally have thrown 50% breaking balls to try and get some work on them. Who knows?
