This. It's Maddon's walk year, and it's comical to think the Rays will offer him a contract in 2013 that will even match what other teams will offer. Why not try to get something for him this year.

The Cubs are not more attractive than the Cards right now. No way. And it's not even close.

MLB managers don't want lower expectations. They want talent and a front office that will do what it takes to win. The Cubs are probably 2-3 seasons away from being in contention. The Cards, almost regardless of what happens with Albert, will probably be the odds on favorite to come out of the NL again. Howard is out for Philly. Milwaukee is losing Prince. We get Wainwright back.

Not to mention the fact that the Cards have the second most championships in MLB history and have spend the last 15 years winning, winning, winning, and winning some more. There's not a single team in the NL that has won more games and playoff games than the Cardinals over the past 15-40 years.


I don't know how you can be so sure about that. You might be right but your certitude puzzles me.

I agree. There are those that would want nothing more than to be that guy that finally gets it done in Chicago. Plus, no offense, but it's a way better place to live.

The Rays are opening a new ballpark and Maddon, more than anyone, is the face of that franchise. If there's even remotely a chance that the organization can pay him, they will. And it's not like we're talking about Pujols or something. We aren't talking about $20-25M per year contracts.

That'd be one hell of a way to thank taxpayers for giving you a new stadium- auctioning off your manager, who's the best in the game.
