So, does the new manager manage the NL in the ASG in 2012?

I agree. I don't know if McGwire has the personality to be a manager, and deal with having to answer questions about his moves. TLR didn't have much of a stomach for that kind of stuff, and probably would not have lasted as long in a larger market. McGwire to me is even further down the scale from La Russa. I have my doubts if McGwire would be able to handle the microscope real well.

I saw a mention today(I think from Rosenthal) that the Commissioner's office will decide who does that job. Said it could be the new Cards manager, but doesn't have to be.

From 1996 to 2011, Tony La Russa used 7,299 relief pitchers. He walked approximately 248 miles making pitching changes.

That is awesome.

What about the Angels pitching coach, Mike Butcher?

After reading all thirty- something pages ...

If Theo doesn't go for Francona, what does that say about Tito's managing skills ?

I don't think Valentine's personality would fit very well with the midwestern values of the team and it's fans.

I wonder if deep down Mo is glad to no longer be the GM of a team that has a legendary manager who had so much stroke?

I wonder how many coaches under contract have an escape clause in their contracts that allows them acept a manager's job?

Will Mitchell Boggs miss Tony's bus?

Ted Simmons stepped down from a GM's job because of stress and heart issues, so I don't know he would be able to manager if he wanted to.

I think all coaches do.

A team is supposed to let its coaches interview, IIRC, if it's a promotion. If it was a lateral move(I.E: The Mets ask the Cardinals for permission to interview for their 3B Coach job), the Cardinals can deny that request from a team.
