Good article by Goold about comp picks and Cards history the past few years. Like always, apologies if posted before.

Rasmus was the centerpiece of the deal that landed three players who contributed heavily to the Cardinals' 2011 World Series run -- starter Edwin Jackson, lefty Marc Rzepczynski, and reliever Octavio Dotel. Jackson's deal with the Washington Nationals on Thursday means two of those key additions have left town via free agency, but they have not left the Cardinals empty-handed. Jackson and Dotel will net the Cardinals two additional picks in the coming draft, and that means Rasmus will, effectively, turn into Rzepczynski and two high picks.

Be sure to thank Edgar Renteria.

Jackson and Dotel are good players but if I could hit on one of those early draft picks and have them eventually having one of those guys being a multi time all star under team control for awhile then that's a better deal then overpaying for an average pitcher like Jackson. Granted those picks could easily turn into a Tyler Greene or Pete Kozma but they could also turn into a Matt Moore or Mike Trout type.

Last year The Platoon Advantage had a series of "trade trees" diagramming legacies like Renteria-Rasmus-Future Comp Pick.

I found them interesting. The best one was this tree

which traced the selection of someone named Jon Matlack by the Mets in 1967 to David Wright's presence on the Met roster 44 years later.

I personally like how the Cardinals have done in the wake of both departures.

Not to say anything disparaging regarding either player.

I really liked Renty when he was a Cardinal. He always seemed friendly, postgame, at Patty O's.

The new staff certainly has its work cut out for it come the draft.

We'll have to see how good they're at drafting now that Luhnow is gone.

I don't know the rules for twitter and posting.

Goold retweeted this from some guy named @ShiDavidi in the twitterverse.
