Cat Declawing

My only beef with cats is that I've never met a cat that didn't hate me... well, except for my friend's cat that's half bobcat. It just stalks me and swats at my hands when I'm not looking. Fortunately it's declawed. If it still had claws it would probably be capable of killing people, and if cats had that ability, they most certainly would kill people.

No doubt there are cats that claw the [expletive] out if stuff, but to say they all do is inaccurate.

100% do it in my experience. And, even if your cat doesn't, this cat does it so much that it brings the average up from 99% scratch to all scratch.

Also, your cat does it to. It just so happens to use its post. Take that thing away and see what happens.

I have no post. I have 2 cats. They haven't damaged anything since I've owned them (6 years).

I do agree that that is somewhat unusual, though.

Not to be an insensitive jerk, but what are cats defending themselves from outside? I think most outdoor cats probably die from starvation or getting hit by cars. Claws probably dont' come into play in those cases.


Edit: Let me just add that I'm a guy that really likes cats. I have 2 of them.

I lost three cats to coyotes and I've seen one badly mauled by a raccoon.

Not to mention dogs.

No claws, a cat can't climb to safety.

I hadn't thought about the climbing aspect. I have personally not heard much about dogs killing cats. I mean, is that kind of a myth, or not?

Not a myth. I watched a pitbull swallow a kitten whole and go for seconds.

There's a rotweiler in the neighborhood this cat that I'm talking about is in that has killed multiple cats. Animal control has been awesome at sending out flyers but not so much at catching the dog which is awesome. I love rabid rots running around.

Nothing against rots, but they are big mofos and can cause damage if not taken care of.

If your cat isn't going outdoors, I don't see a need for claws.

Oh, and my friend has huskies that think cats are toys, so they literally will play with them to death. Outdoor cats definitely need claws.

It's not about need though...it's about the fact it's inhumane to declaw them, IMO at least.

You feed, nourish, and care for another animal and ask little in return. All your asking is that they don't destroy everything in your home. In lieu of being able to actually able to communicate with a cat and voice your concerns, declawing is a necessity.

If someone said they would pay for your food, entertainment, shelter, everything you could imaginably want, and all you had to do was have your fingernails trimmed short as possible at all times, wouldn't you take that offer?

Trimming nails is not the same thing as declawing.
