Pick 59 For Jackson

That's just round one and supplemental one. I had no clue the cards had that many supplemental picks.

It's why it's disingenuous to say the Cards got 'half a year of Dotel, Jackson, Patterson and a few years of a LOOGY for Rasmus.'

We also got three very high picks for him. (not to mention an eventual World Series ring, but that's a specious argument)

Two picks. Unfortunately, what research has been done on the value of draft picks puts the combined value of those two picks at about $1.5 million, less than half a win.

That has to be an average or something. I would think a better way to look at it would be that picks add up to a certain % chance of being worth 2 WAR, 5 WAR, 10 WAR, 15 WAR, whatever. With decreasing odds, obviously for each.

The Cards seem to have gotten a lot of mileage out of their most recent supplemental picks. Guys like Jay and Lynn come to mind (I think Lynn might have been a 2nd rounder).

Two picks. How does that change anything I said? We got the players and picks.

Lynn was a supplemental pick. 39th overall.

So the average WAR expectancy of a supplemental pick is ~.2 WAR over the course of his career?

It's around that range, though what we're talking about is their surplus value over the $600 thousand or so bonus you'd expect to give them.

The thing that the mlb draft has that the other drafts don't is the college players eing drafted that are still alive in the college world series are still playing at the time of the Draft.
