The Cubs are letting teams know that nearly everyone but starter Jeff Samardzija is available, two high-ranking team officials told USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because of competitive reasons.
Anybody on the Cubs you'd want?
I was thinking about Dempster, Garza, or even Marmol. But, I wouldn't give up too much for any of them.

Just pitchers or everyone? Article makes it sound like everyone.

I'm pretty sure Samardzija has a no trade clause, but they are pretty crazy to trade Castro unless they get a lot for him.
I guess that would explain it since I sure can't think of another reason. I looked it up and he does have a NTC. But wouldn't Dempster and Soriano (like anybody wants him) be 5/10? Though the chance to go to a contender will surely get them to waive that.

Surely Castro isn't really available unless the Cubs are blown away.
As for their other players...DeJesus has played CF from time to time, can he do it without spiking himself? Would that Campana dude be any upgrade or is he no better than the lovely Chambers/Robinson platoon we have going?
Not that they'd deal with us anyway. I've been a Cardinals fan for nearly 30 years and I can't remember us making a deal with them.

The Lou Brock and Bruce Sutter deals were before your time.
But, there haven't been that many since the Sutter deal waaaaay back in '80.
Garza would be a great addition, IMO. Dempster would certainly help. Maybe one of those non-descript relievers too for a bucket of wings and a case of Falstaff, but I think Marmol's price would be too high.
They say Castro won't stick at SS, so he has some work to do to become a high value run producer at 3B. I think he will get there, because he can really hit, but not a lot of power yet.
