Lefty Jaime Garcia remains in St. Louis dealing with inflammation in his left (pitching) elbow and the Cardinals acknowledged today that his scheduled start Tuesday is questionable.
Mike Matheny said it's not certain that Garcia will start that day in Houston even after the team reshuffled the rotation to buy the lefty more time between starts.
Garcia has been prescribed additional rest.
He is in St. Louis working with the Cardinals' rehab coordinator. General manager John Mozeliak said the team will determine Monday if Garcia has recovered enough to make a start Tuesday in Houston. If not, manager Mike Matheny said, "there is always a Plan B."
The Cardinals do not have a long reliever in the bullpen now that Brandon Dickson has been optioned back to Class AAA Memphis. It would take a DL move to bring Dickson back in order to make a start on Tuesday.

Jon Jay has been told not to do any stressful activity with his shoulder (i.e., swing a baseball bat) for at least the next week. Jay received an anti-inflammatory shot before heading last week to Jupiter, Fla., for what could have been the start of a rehab assignment. Jay had an adverse reaction to the shot and it created additional irritation in his shoulder. That caused the pain that sent him for a second opinion. Two club officials said the latest scan of his right shoulder did not show any additional structural damage beyond the initial sprain (separation) of the joint. The team hopes the inflammation in the joint subsides after almost 10 days of rest so that Jay can return to swinging a bat.
