Rant/Rave: Bourbon
Rave: I've come to love bourbon in the last year or so. I still have to learn what's good, what's not, etc., but I've found a great groove right now with Four Roses. I also dig Woodford Reserve.
Rant: I've spent the overwhelming majority of my life drinking beer. I'm not used to going at a bourbon pace. I'm used to cramming barley and malt in my face consistently for 7 hours, which generally leaves you on your own two feet and mildly lucid. Bourbon is something else altogether. It's conducive to becoming an ornery cuss and you can seriously hurt yourself if you don't watch it.

Re: Rant/Rave: Bourbon
I'm right there with you, I started exploring whiskey about 5 years ago and have settled in on bourbon as my whiskey of choice. I've heard Four Roses single barrel was good. I was being directed to either that or a bottle of X that I bought in the same price range, and I'll be damned if I can remember the name of it. Got it at Binny's, about $40, and it came in a cardboard tube. It was 96 proof I think.
Anyway, if you want some cheaper ones that are still solid I strongly recommend Evan Williams 1786 (< $20). It's better than most of the $30 bottles I've tried. The other one I like a lot is Larceny, 92 proof, and it's under $25.
They will knock you on your ass, especially the stronger stuff.

The Four Roses small batch is also very good, as is the single barrel.
I'll keep an eye out for Larceny. TFG is also on this train (TFB?).

This sums up why I usually drink beer when I'm out, even though I vastly prefer liquor/cocktails. Well, that and money.JL21 wrote:. Bourbon is my jam.
Whistle Pig 10, Willet Family Pot Still, Michter's, High West Campfire, and Black Maple Hill are some of my favorites.

Re: Rant/Rave: Bourbon
I just polished off some Bulleit Rye. Haven't decided what to get next. Something new or a reliable stand by? Submit your recommendations, please.
