So the Higgs is annoying little Tweens chasing after a little twerp that looks like a 30-something lesbian. It all makes sense now.

Very few people understand the details, so try to just let yourself grasp the big pictures. There is stuff in the universe, and there are forces that act on that stuff. Finding the Higgs was the last piece of the puzzle describing all of that stuff and all of those forces. More study will reveal more secrets of course. We will never completely understand, but it's in our DNA to try.Fat Strat wrote:Watched it. It was good. I think it did help. I don't feel like I understand it well, but I guess that's kind of the problem. It's all unclear at this point even to well-known theoretical physicists. I don't know why I expect to be able to understand it all.jim wrote:Check this out and see if this helps at all... (7 minutes, and it might be worth 7 hours of your own research)

It's a fascinating universe.

So here is what the Atlas detector looked like in March of 2007 when I was there. There was a problem the day we were there with alarms going off, and we really feared that our visit was going to be cancelled. Luckily it was a false alarm, and I got to do the coolest thing I've ever done on my job.
This is before taking the elevator ride down ... it's 100 meters straight down. Little unnerving to lean over for someone with a fear of heights.
My entourage.
This is the Atlas detector where the Higgs was discovered:
Another picture of the Atlas detector
This is a picture of them lifting a piece of machinery out of the tunnel. I wasn't completely comfortable watching that, but they knew what they were doing.

Jim, those pictures are bad ass. I want a James Bond action scene in that joint.

This is all very exciting, but when do we get eternal life and sexy androids? How about just a cure for baldness?

I got an email from CaptureWiz, a program for capturing areas on your screen and saving them as photos or videos. The company is based in Britain. Here's what they had to say about responses to customer service:
Please send comments, suggestions and Higgs bosons, if you can find one
