I've never placed a wager on a game but if I can go to a legal sports book at a casino or Fairmount Park, I'll be there.

Looks like it will be even easier. I like to play NBA daily fantasy on DraftKings. As a user I got an email from them today citing the Supreme Court decision and saying...tlombard wrote:I've never placed a wager on a game but if I can go to a legal sports book at a casino or Fairmount Park, I'll be there.

Greetings all! Long time reader, first time poster.
I'm from New Zealand, where sports betting has been legal and really quite normal for as long as I've been around. Can anyone explain what the big deal is here?
More specifically, why are (some) people saying Rose should be in the HoF now? Surely it wasn't just that he gambled, but more that he was in a position to influence the results of the things he was betting on?

A lot of the stigma in baseball goes back to the Black Sox scandal of 1919 when Arnold Rothstein a prominent gambler and gangster of the time paid a lot of the White Sox players to tank the series. Which is understandable since it hurt the integrity of the game.

The betting isn't a big deal to me...but some people are hyped about it for sure.
There have always been supporters of Rose getting into the HoF and I think you are right...it is not so much that he bet on games that has kept him out but that he was betting on games that he managed and therefore could have been manipulating how he managed that particular game. Personally I think Rose waited too long to come clean on the whole mess...but I imagine eventually he gets into the Hall (perhaps posthumously).
