It's one of these situations where if the Cards go on a tear now, he could win the job. If they don't, they will look elsewhere.

I couldn't wait to turn on ESPN101 this morning!

I think if Shildt goes and gets these guys to play(whether we buy, or sell), we keep him on a year2year contract. For me, the fact that there's no ex-player ego this time is HUGE. There's no swagger with Shildt. Matheny acted as manager, like he acted as a player; Hardass. Shildt never played professionally. So he's a baseball guy that's not only found a love of the game from off the field. But he fell in love with Cardinal Baseball, and it's lore. He doesn't have that, 'i once played. What did you do?' chip on his shoulder. And while explayers can make perfect acceptable managers, I think right now these guys need the type of guy Shildt is.

I get a Hank Hill vibe from Shildt. That is not a bad thing.

Good post, MLG. I get the same vibe. He seems to have a certain humbleness about him, while at the same time having an heir of confidence.
