Yeah, well, I was abandoned here.

You should have never moved back to STL. We don't have skulling on our rivers...we have casinos. Don't even have a Club here, except the ones kept open because the attornies and trustees forgot to cancel the memberships of the dead rich folk. But we do have hundreds of bro-ski tough weirdo workout spots in the industrial parks and cheap commercial real estate. But Hell if you'll ever get a nice steam in a towel, followed by a Bullshot in the club bah after you've PRd in the clean and jerk (286 lbs).

And where can you get a tailored men's dress shirt around here? And where the [expletive] you going to wear it now that Sundeckers has closed? ...Sundeckers! - I can't even find a good closed hotspot reference.....make it Balabans instead.

Don't even ask for a clam chowdah! around here, with that Peacemaker nonsense and all. FML.

And what the H E double hockey stick, now my doppelganger is hanging out at Hotshots in SoCo, smuggling Bud Lights in a Taransenko jersey to the Kiel Savvis or Scottrade or whatever the [expletive] they call the Blues rink now. And he'll have to catch a flight with a switch of planes in MDW and MSP plus a 3 hour car rental if he wants to get wicked in ice pond hockey tourney EVER AGAIN.

Completely messed up. How am I supposed to sign off now without CLAM CHOWDAH?. SQUARE BEYOND COMPARE! It'll never be like it was.

2nd Shift makes some of my favorite brews in town. Civil Life is still one my overall favorite brands because of how well they support South City and they make simple, affordable, delicious beers. 4 Hands has some great reliable beers but I've come to loathe the scene in their tasting room. Urban Chestnut is still cranking out a lot of high quality beer, too.

As for a few others worth checking out if you haven't yet...

Wellspent Brewing (2917 Olive St, St. Louis) is one to keep an eye on. Their reputation has skyrocketed among homebrewers and critics. I haven't been in there since they opened so the tap selection was limited at the time but I was impressed with what I had. I need to get back there to see how they've progressed because I keep hearing great things.

Narrow Gauge (1595 N Hwy 67, Florissant) is a big sleeper pick. Apparently their production far exceeds their reputation. I've heard they are the fastest growing brewery in the region. I also haven't sampled a lot of their brews but the few I've had were very well done.

Heavy Riff (6413 Clayton Ave) doesn't get much fanfare and don't seem intent on becoming anything bigger than they are but I've always been really impressed with their beers. The food is excellent in the tasting room and there's a beautiful shuffleboard table that's free to play.

Charleville (2101 Chouteau Ave, St. Louis) isn't technically a St. Louis original but they are making some high quality beer, including tackling some more challenging and creative brews.

Alpha Brewing (4310 Fyler Ave) is one I've had mixed feelings about. Early on I wasn't impressed with their beers. They had a huge selection but I didn't take any of them to be anything more than average. However the last few times I've been in I've been pleasantly surprised. I think they've stepped up their game.

And as for the rest...

Perennial and Side Project - I get that they're good - but it's not my style so I'm not a huge fan. Earthbound (2724 Cherokee St) has a pretty poor reputation among homebrewers but they've poured a lot of money into Cherokee St and I think they're at least better than their reputation (stay weird, Earthbound). Center Ice (3126 Olive St) is one of those doesn't-stand-out but is worth supporting. Modern (5231 Manchester Ave) used to be one of my favorites but for whatever reason I got bored with them. Six Mile Bridge (11841 Dorsett Rd) has stepped up their branding and selection and is one I'd like to spend some more time with.

Was it one of those, "I'm moving to Canada if he's Manager" sort of things and you just came home since Matheny was fired? The timing is curious. Either way, welcome back.

Outstate MO

Everything I've had from Columbia MO Logboat brewing has been good. Had some trouble getting past my bias against can beer-which is what they offer in stores.

Likewise, Piney River has some good offerings.

Public House Brewing - only had a couple and wasn't impressed.

Tin Mill in Hermann - it's pretty good. Not sure how they make money with the size investment there. Not my problem.

Charleville and Crown - random offerings I liked. Some I didn't.

East Side

Waterloo has 2 good breweries - Stubborn German and Hopskeller. Worth the trip.

Alton's Old Bakery - I like it when I'm there. Rarely buy it from the store.

Grafton has something called a brewery. Not good at all.

Stupid that I've never been to Scratch Brewing.

Had issues finding decent local beers in Florida, again. Tried at least a dozen different ones this time. Some were ok (Cigar City Jai Alai). some i had to dump. the one I liked -if i recall correctly was something from Red Hare 50/50 something.

It was bad enough, that next time assuming we drive- I am hauling beer from MO.
