Re: Baseball Poetry
Can someone turn this into a tournament? We need a tournament. Maybe baseball poetry isn't the right thing to base a tournament on - do covers ver 3 -I don't care. But we need a [expletive] tournament.

Re: Baseball Poetry
We bandied about the idea of a Simpson's tournament, but I don't think it gained much traction. Covers v3 could be fun, but may be overdone at this point.
Maybe best Billboard #1 hit? Could be open to essentially any genre and any year.

best movies/tv/music of a certain decade?
these can be tough since whatever the subject is has to be vast enough for a majority of folks to be aware of

Post a poll asking what the next tournament should be. We need more polls.Radbird wrote:Can someone turn this into a tournament? We need a tournament. Maybe baseball poetry isn't the right thing to base a tournament on - do covers ver 3 -I don't care. But we need a [expletive] tournament.

A poll would be too limiting. Just start a thread in General soliciting suggestions, okay?CardsofSTL wrote:Post a poll asking what the next tournament should be. No GDTs for another month or so and we need to keep you occupied.

I'm Talkin' Baseball.
Hornsby, Haines, and Ripper.
Cardinal baseball.
Leo was the Lipper!
Ducky, Country, Red, Kurowski, too.
Slats, he had that Golden Glove of glue.
I'm Talkin' Baseball.
Baseball in St. Lou.
With that Man, no one could match him.
Mort pitchin', Walker catchin'
St. Louis was another Cooperstown.
Rookies of the year,
Bill and Wally started here.
Brock on the run,
The Cardinals won, and were pennant-bound!
I'm Talkin' Baseball!
Javier and Carlton.

Boyer, Groat, and Curt, McCarver, too.
Cepeda was an MVP, it's true.

Now, this town on the Mississippi.
Is Handy with the Blues.
And the King of Beers is right at home,
Where Gibson made the hitters moan.
Seventeen went down in just one Fall.
Now, Gibby's in the Hall!
The Cardinals have tradition.
Each year they have a mission.
To end up in the Classic in the Fall.
New names join the old, another team unfolds.
The Cards look mighty, they're managed by Whitey.
So, let's Play Ball!
I'm Talkin' Baseball.
Hendrick, Keith Hernandez.
Cardinal baseball.
Oberkfell and Sanchez.
Darrell, Forsch, and Tommy, Sutter, too.
When Ozzie fields, the Cards are comin' through.
Talkin' Baseball. Baseball in St. Lou!
Talkin' Baseball. Baseball in St. Lou!
The Man! The Man! The Man!
Cardinal baseball.
Baseball in St. Lou.
The Man! The Man! The Man!
Well, Stanley Frank, he was in the bank.
The Donora Greyhound, Talkin' Baseball.
Baseball in St. Lou.
The Man! The Man! The Man!
Yeah, Gibby would call: 'Hey, just gimme the ball'!
The Man! The Man! The Man!

Re: Baseball Poetry
Song lyrics but close enough
Baseball on the Block
Just a stick and a ball and a neighborhood call
And a space big enough for a game...
Third base is Eddie's old shirt
Second is Schmidt's Chevrolet
I had a sure double, I was just rounding first
When Schmidt's Mom drove second away
The grownups all sit on the doorsteps
Watching us play in the street
And the ev'ning feels lazy as softball
As it comes at you slow, sure and sweet
Chorus:
And it's one, two, three and you're out
Two, three, four balls you walk
The bases are loaded, I'm standing alone
Give me a sweet one, I'll bring us all home
These are the best days that I've ever known
Baseball on the block
At night we all listen to our radios
And follow each twist of the game
We know all the numbers, we know all the teams
We know every player by name
All those kids who once played in the sandlots
And did all the stuff that we do
With a ball and a glove and a game that we love
They're not that much different from you
Chorus
It's a hit in the gap, it's a sacrifice fly
It's one hit shut-out through four
It's a Texas-league double, a hit-and-run play
With one in position to score
It's the old "hidden ball" trick, a looper to right
The runners are looking to go
He shakes off a sign, checks the lead-off at first
Here's the wind-up, the stretch and the throw
Chorus
So Willie, say hey, don't you wanna play
Meet me in the street after noon
Gimme low and away and I'll hit 'em all day
To the man who lives up in the moon
